The Cost of Childbirth

A new installment in our ongoing series on Surviving Childbirth, we examine the actual cost of having a baby, as well as the true out of pocket expense incurred by the family. Blessed event!

$7046 for having a baby. Brilliant.

 $250 co-pay. Brilliant-er.

Total paid in Health insurance to date: $261. Brilliant-est.

Blaming our problems on the big companies who offer this benefit to individuals, couples regardless of gender or sexual orientation, and individuals regardless of health: Stupid.

I'm not saying that every company is an angel, but even the beloved Federal Government doesn't offer that kind of benefit. And asking them to do so may result in losing jobs that currently offer this compensation. Just think about it before you retreat to your ideological fall back: Wouldn't cheering for business to expand and having an honest conversation about the future be more beneficial than screaming and threatening?
